The National Heritage Areas Nightmare: Peyton Knight on F21SC Radio

- 01/26/2005
Proponents claim National Heritage Areas are nothing more than innocuous designations bestowed upon specific areas for the sole purpose of bringing national recognition and tourism dollars to local communities. This is a ruse. In reality, National Heritage Areas are insidious attempts by green groups and preservationists to secure federal money and power in their never-ending quest to restrict property rights and dictate land use. Because they are federally funded and administered by the National Park Service, National Heritage Areas are really nothing more than a national zoning scheme. Some National Heritage Areas have even served as prime targets for Park Service land grabs. Now, some in Congress want to create a National Heritage Areas program that could potentially entrap every square inch of the U.S. in this land use nightmare. Most frightening of all is that very few in Congress truly understand what Heritage Areas are and how they work.

Daniel Beckett with Frank Denninger - 02/02/2005 The Florida Everglades Restoration Project might sound good, but it's not! People have lost their homes, farms, and livelihoods. Environmental organizations working in partnership with state and federal agents say they are "restoring" the Everglades to create the free flow of water (flooding) in name of "the public good." Southern Florida is part of an "Active Wildlands Project" meant to obliterate human presence in the area. That means the elimination of roads, utilities, homes, traditional recreation, and farms. Tonight we will hear from Florida resident turned advocate, Frank Denninger, who has been working tirelessly to turn the tide on this monster plan. Daniel Beckett will be your host.

A California Superior Court jury found Santa Barbara planning officials "illegally conspired" to harm a family farm. The Adams Bros. were prevented from cultivating on their land because the county used a "willingly incompetent" consultant to designate the land a "wetland". Once declared a wetland the land lost market value. The jury found the county's objective may have been to purchase the land through eminent domain at a bargain basement price. The awards, including punitive damages, totaled $6.7 million. Richard Brenneman, attorney for Adams Bros. Farms, will discuss this precedent setting case and shocking story as the farmer now awaits a federal criminal trial for plowing his land!

An Arizona jury found the Center for Biological Diversity guilty of making "false, unfair, libelous and defamatory statements" against rancher, Jim Chilton. Chilton, a fifth-generation Arizona rancher was awarded $100,000 in actual damages and $500,000 in punitive damages from the Center and three of its employees. "The Center does not use science, they use scare tactics" says Chilton. "They also use endangered species as surrogates to obtain their own goals and to raise money." Some say the Center was responsible for last year's catastrophic fires in San Diego because of their pursuit of environmental lawsuits that prevented private owners from managing fuel loads. Learn more about the Center for Biological Diversity.
