California Real ID Act Trades Liberty for a Security Breach

Trading liberty for security is a take on the well-known Benjamin Franklin quote: "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both."

Senate Bill (S.B.) 60, the California Real ID Card legislation passed on September 10, 2008. If Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger either signs it or does nothing for 30 days, it becomes law. If he vetoes it, it will die for a while…
